Personal Profile
Mr Matthew Jones is an experienced orthopaedic hand & wrist surgeon at University Hospitals Coventry and Warwickshire NHS Trust since 2016. He specialises exclusively in the diagnosis and treatment of conditions affecting the hand & wrist.
Mr Jones graduated from the University of Sheffield Medical School with Honours in 2003, achieving Distinction in his final examinations. He became a member of the Royal College of Surgeons of England in 2006 and continued to train in orthopaedic surgery in the Nottingham area at hospitals in Nottingham, Derby, Mansfield and Leicester. He became a fellow of the Royal College of Surgeons in 2012 and undertook further specialist fellowship training in Sheffield and Chesterfield. He was awarded a travelling fellowship to three prestigious hand surgery centres in the USA: The Mayo Clinic, The Indiana Hand to Shoulder Center and The Kleinert Kutz Hand Center.
Mr Jones has published papers in orthopaedics and hand surgery in peer-reviewed journals and has written book chapters on hand and upper limb surgery in orthopaedic textbooks.
In addition to Mr Jones’ clinical work, he has a number of non-clinical roles including:
• Tutor and Examiner for the BSSH Diploma in Hand Surgery
• Assigned Educational Supervisor Foundation doctors
• Lead for Hand Surgery at UHCW
• Anatomy demonstrator at Warwick Medical School
• Examiner for Warwick Medical School
• Regional co-ordinator of hand teaching for senior orthopaedic trainees
• Organiser of the West Midlands Hand Society meetings
• Organiser of UHCW Hand Centre journal clubs
• Chair of session at International Federation of Societies for Surgery of the Hand 2022
• Cardiff Hand Fracture Course Faculty
• Reviewer for the BMJ Case Reports journal
