Mr Michael Mikhail has been a Consultant Urological Surgeon at Ashford & St Peter’s Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust since April 2020, where he is the departmental Education Lead for trainees.

Training and Appointment

Having grown up in Reading, Berkshire, Mr Mikhail studied medicine at the prestigious University College London Medical School, qualifying in 2008. After completing his Foundation Years and Basic Surgical Training in and around London, he began higher urological training in the University Hospital of Wales. Mr Mikhail then completed Urology Specialist Training in the North West London (Imperial) rotation, which included posts in Charing Cross Hospital as well as other west London hospitals. His training culminated in sub-specialty training in complex stone surgery with the world-renowned Stone Team at University College London Hospital.

In order to further hone his craft, Mr Mikhail was accepted onto the competitive Stone and Uro-Oncology fellowship in Perth, Western Australia. He brings this wealth of additional experience to his practice in Surrey, where he is now firmly settled with his wife and family.

Current Practice

Mr Mikhail treats a wide range of core urological conditions including benign prostate enlargement, recurrent urinary tract infections (UTIs) and assessment of blood in the urine (haematuria).

He has a special interest in prostate cancer diagnosis with the use of multi-parametric MRI, transperineal prostate biopsy and fusion biopsy. He also offers a comprehensive stone service including extracorporeal shockwave lithotripsy, rigid and flexible ureterorenoscopy and laser stone fragmentation, as well as keyhole stone surgery (percutaneous nephrolithotomy, PCNL).

Research and Teaching

Mr Mikhail has been an investigator in several national prostate cancer trials and has presented research nationally and internationally.

He also has a passion for teaching and training and currently oversees and supervises the education and training of the urological trainees at Ashford & St Peter’s Hospital. He is also part of the team delivering several training and educational courses around the country.
