Professional Profile

Mr Dattani was awarded a First Class honours BSc in 2005 from King’s College London and qualified from Guy’s King’s & St.Thomas’ (GKT) Medical School in 2008. He undertook clinical academic training in London & Leicester and was awarded a prestigious Circulation Foundation Surgeon Scientist Award to fund his doctoral research into the pathogenesis of abdominal aortic aneurysms. He was awarded a Masters in Research in 2017 and MD with Distinction in 2018 from the University of Leicester. His research has led to numerous accolades including being recipient of the Lauder Medal from the College of Life Sciences and the British Journal of Surgery Prize from the Vascular Society of Great Britain & Ireland. He has published >45 peer-reviewed papers and presented research nationally and internationally. 

Mr Dattani completed higher specialist vascular training in the West Midlands working in some of the busiest units in the country and was awarded his Fellowship of the Royal College of Surgeons (FRCS) in Vascular Surgery in 2019. He obtained certificate of completion of training in 2020 and went onto complete a post-certification fellowship, specialising in complex aortic & endovascular work at the Freeman Hospital in Newcastle. He was appointed as a Consultant Vascular & Endovascular Surgeon at the renowned Leicester Vascular Institute in 2021. 

Mr Dattani is the Undergraduate & Postgraduate Lead for Vascular Education in Leicester. He has set up numerous initiatives to improve the quality of vascular surgical training in Leicester and regularly teaches the next generation of surgeons. He is faculty for numerous nationally recognised courses including Advanced Trauma Life Support (ATLS), Basic Surgical Skills (BSS), the Vascular Limb Salvage Academy (VaLSA) and ASPIRE. 

Mr Dattani regularly partakes in the national selection process for doctors wishing to pursue a career in core surgery and vascular surgery. He serves as a senior advisor on the executive committee of the Vascular and Endovascular Research Network (VERN), which he co-founded in 2013 and has recently been appointed as a member of the British Society of Endovascular Therapy (BSET) council.
