Personal Profile

Mr Okhovat is a Consultant ENT Surgeon with a specialisation in nose, sinus, and minimally invasive endoscopic skull base surgery, as well as facial plastic surgery. His practice is based at the Glasgow Royal Infirmary and Queen Elizabeth University Hospital, where he serves as a vital tertiary referral point for patients from across the west of Scotland.

Having graduated with Distinction from Imperial College London School of Medicine in 2010, Mr Okhovat completed his foundation and core surgical training at the esteemed Northwest Thames London Deanery with a primary focus on ENT surgery. He then pursued registrar training in the West of Scotland before embarking on a prestigious fellowship in advanced rhinology, sinus, and minimally invasive skull base surgery at the renowned University of British Columbia, Vancouver General Hospital in Canada. Accredited by both the American Rhinological Society and the North American Skull Base Society, this fellowship further enhanced his expertise in diagnosing and managing complex inflammatory, benign, and malignant sinus, nose, and skull base conditions.

Mr Okhovat sought additional observership training at the esteemed Stanford University Centre for Cranial Base Surgery in Paolo Alto, California, and completed the British Rhinological Society Advanced Rhinology Fellowship programme, further solidifying his expertise in the field.

He has expertise in diagnosis and management of complex inflammatory, benign and malignant sinus, nose and skull base pathology. He works in close collaboration with the Neurosurgical team as part of the Endoscopic Neuro-Skull Base Surgery team at the Institute of Neurological Sciences at QEUH, performing endoscopic endonasal approaches for resection of skull base tumours. He is also part of the Paediatric Endoscopic Skull Base team providing a regional service for children with neuro-skull base tumours.

Mr Okhovat runs a tertiary referral facial plastic surgery practice treating complex nasal and facial deformities. He has an academic interest in operative and non-operative rhinoplasty and has performed a substantial number of reconstructive nasal surgeries including open and closed septorhinoplasties, non-surgical rhinoplasties as well as partial and total nasal reconstruction for patients with nasal cancer.

He undertook observerships at high volume facial plastic centres in New York with Dr Steve Pearlman, MD, FACS (past President of the American Academy of Facial Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery) at Pearlman Aesthetics and Dr Maurice Khosh MD. He has also published in the field of facial plastic reconstructive surgery and is an invited speaker and faculty at numerous national meetings and courses.

Mr Okhovat has an extensive academic interest in surgical education and has published in peer-reviewed journals. He is the current Fellowship Director for the Glasgow Advanced Sinus and Skull Base Surgery Fellowship programme. He is also the Associate Post-Graduate Dean for Neurosurgery and Otolaryngology Simulation Training for Scotland, as well as the UK Surgical Accreditation Committee Lead for Rhinology Simulation training. He has received numerous awards and commendations for his contribution to surgical education and training, including the University of British Columbia Fellow Teaching Award and Imperial College London Teaching excellence awards.
