Mr Richardson is clinical director and highly respected surgeon in the Manchester and Cheshire area, who has provided top quality medical care and guidance for 22 years. He is the lead surgeon in the region for the open repair of complex aneurysms of the Aorta (the main artery of the body), he also specialises in keyhole minimally invasive varicose vein treatments using the latest techniques. The treatment of carotid artery disease requiring surgery for the prevention of stroke and peripheral vascular disease requiring the latest microsurgery techniques are both areas where he has over 10 years of experience and proven outstanding results.

At the Alexandra Hospital he is able to offer a wide range of techniques for the treatment of varicose veins including radiofrequency ablation, foam sclerotherapy and traditional surgery. He can also offer the full scope of arterial surgery and treatments for problems with the arteries of the body. Mr Richardson offers every patient the focused, one on one attention they deserve for a more relaxed, patient centred experience.

Mr Richardson was born and raised in Manchester. Being raised by an engineer, he grew up tinkering with model aeroplanes and helicopters in his spare time. Mr Richardson discovered his passion for surgery early on his medical career in Imperial college in London, where he completed his Medical degree. He stayed in London as a junior doctor at Chelsea and Westminster hospital he was then selected for surgical training in the northwest of England.

He trained extensively in cardiothoracic and transplant surgery, working as a Research Fellow at The Transplant Centre in South Manchester University Hospital where he discovered a new technique for diagnosing rejection in heart transplant recipients. He was awarded the higher degree of MD for this work. He then focused his training in the field of Vascular surgery, working at Manchester Royal Infirmary, and Wythenshawe Hospital as a senior trainee, before expanding his experience further, by embarking on an endovascular Fellowship in Australia. On his return to Manchester, he was appointed as Consultant Vascular and Endovascular Surgeon at The University Hospital of South Manchester. He has a keen interest in Research and Education and is the clinical director of Vascular Surgery at Wythenshawe Hospital. He also treats patients with sports related vascular disease.

Mr Richardson is comfortable correcting a wide range of complications or medical issues that could arise in vascular surgery. He is more than happy providing a second opinion should you wish one. He has extensive medicolegal experience and is commonly instructed by the NHS to defend or pursue medical negligence allegations as an expert witness. He has broad experience in the treatment of sports related arterial disease (such as popliteal entrapment and iliac artery endofibrosis) and works closely with his partners at the Manchester Institute of Health and Performance. He is a member of several professional societies, including the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh, The Vascular Society, and the European Vascular society.

In his free time, Mr Richardson enjoys running, cycling, yoga and dog walks with his wife and 2 children. He has a passion for anything which involves going fast and greatly appreciates a good cup of coffee.
